SPECIAL FEATURES OF
KENT/SUSSEX ADOPT-A-FAMILY

In addition to getting tax deductions for your donations, Kent/Sussex Human Services Council, Inc. has some unique features as a non-profit organization.  Due to our relationship with the State of Delaware Department of Health & Social Services, Division of State Service Centers, Kent/Sussex Adopt-a-Family , we are able to do things that many non-profit agencies are not able to do including:

Over 98% of all donations go directly to assist those we pledge to serve.  The
balance goes toward administrative costs including a yearly audit and tax preparation by an independent audit.

       All assistance
is provided free of charge
to those referred to Kent/Sussex Adopt-a-Family and served by Kent/Sussex Human Services Council, Inc.

Families or seniors must complete an interview with Kent/Sussex Adopt-a-Family and provide financial documentation to have a full assessment of their situation. This assessment helps to determine if there are other needs in the household that are not being addressed by either the referring agency or Adopt-a-Family.  If additional needs are found, Adopt-a-Family will make necessary referrals to further assist the family or senior.

SERVICE TRACKING FOR ALL SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES AND WHAT IT MEANS TO DONORS:  Kent/Sussex Adopt-a-Family has always believed that the donors' trust should be honored with a concerted effort to utilize donations to the maximum benefit of those we serve.  That is why, since 2000, Kent/Sussex Adopt-a-Family has offered to act as a "clearing house" service to all Kent and Sussex social service agencies, caseworkers, organizations/groups and even individuals who help others.  By tracking assistance provided to families by all agencies, we are able to prevent duplicating services to any single household and/or identify households that need intervention due to an inadequate support system to help them overcome the cycle of dependency.

In addition, by preventing duplication of services to households, agencies as a group are able to serve more families with the same amount of donations, maximizing the efforts of everyone involved.   To utilize the "clearing house" service, an organization or social service agency must be,
     a registered agency with Kent/Sussex Adopt-a-Family, and
submit a waiver note from the head-of-household allowing Adopt-a-Family to share information about their case with the agency making the inquiry,
provide the Social Security number or numbers for the head or heads-of-household,
provide name, address, and phone number for the household.

With that information Adopt-a-Family will share any "reported" information on services provided to the household and they will record the request for services and services your agency has provided in the case record for any future inquiries.  This allows agencies to communicate rent payments, utility payments, etc. for households to prevent duplicate payments or duplicate services for school or holiday gifts, household supplies such as blankets and pots or pans they have received from other agencies,  etc. to prevent over service to one household and no service to another due to lack of resources.

Ask your other non-profits if they utilize this service of Kent/Sussex Adopt-a-Family the next time you give.
